Counters are the common “drop zones” for things that quickly become “visual noise” (AKA clutter). Find homes for the regularly dropped items and you’ll appreciate the new “open spaces”.
- Make a list of items that typically get left on the counter on a regular basis and then designate homes for them.
- Sort items currently on countertop and return items to their homes. Have a bin or basket for items you regularly use in that area, such as post-its, pens, spare change, and frequently-used supplies.
- Designate areas in kids’ rooms for their school work, musical instruments, sports equipment, etc. For the future, consider installing hooks on the wall for purses, book bags, and keys
